The Appeal
The joy of classic car ownership is that, for certain cars at least, much of the appeal lies in the stories they can tell. MG’s diminutive Midget is just such a car, a characterful classic interwoven with so many enthusiasts' lives. That, and the enduring joy of driving one, explains their popularity.
This 1963 Midget is all those things. Lovingly maintained and improved by its long term enthusiast owner since 1983, it has now passed to his daughter. Very reluctantly, it is now for sale.
The buyer is getting a gem. Restored in 2011 back to blue, it is in very good condition with great panel fit and a well kept but gently aged interior. The badge bar attests to a well-loved and used life. It left the factory with the later 1,098cc motor but is now fitted with 948cc A-Series, as fitted to slightly earlier Mk1 cars.
The long term keeper was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable engineer who maintained the car himself, although the respray and welding was professionally executed. It has covered only 500 miles since this restoration work.
The car is, of course, MOT and tax exempt, but has been usefully regularly MOT’d to give the buyer an independent record of condition. The current MOT runs to June 2024 with no advisories.
This is a wonderful and characterful example of one of the classic world’s favourite sports ars.
