The Appeal
The Chevrolet Corvair was one of the most controversial cars in history - but it really didn't deserve the press it received. Rather than being intended as a high-octane weaver, this air-cooled beauty was more of a bread-and-butter vehicle intended to be cost effective and gently oriented around the family taking a trip to the local grocer's.
The Corvair may have had these issues, and may have been poor when it came to high-speed road holding, but it was very well suited to what it was built for - and just look at it. It's an air-cooled work of art, beautifully finished with an uncharacteristically minimalist appearance for an era when just about every American vehicle was a work of excess.
Nowadays, the car has been repeatedly reassessed, and most enthusiasts worth their salt know that the Corvair was subject to the '60s equivalent of clickbait. It's a solidly engineered, beautifully finished family car that's become increasingly sought after.
This example might well be one of the finest examples out there, too. From an A-Lister celebrity wedding to a stint as a cosseted museum exhibit, this fine flat-six classic is now kept comfortably in a dry, professional storage, with an incredibly low 29,743 on the odometer - which, judging from the car's excellent condition, would well be accurate.
