1962 Triumph TR4 Sport

Highlights

  • Only three owners from new, two of which were husband and wife, who have owned it since 1968
  • Extensively restored
  • Only 37000 miles from new

The Appeal

The Triumph TR4 is a beautiful car; designed by the Italian car designer Giovanni Michelotti and with finned rear lights, spoked wheels and that gorgeous front grille, it’s a car that makes an impression wherever it goes
This TR4 has been a labour of love, an ongoing project over the course of over 50 years this car has been exceptionally well cared for. Having undergone comprehensive restoration and with a rebuilt engine that's still on running-in miles this TR4 is an opportunity anyone who loves British sports cars can’t afford to miss. Ones this good this good don’t come up often and when they do they go fast; bid now if you want to catch this one.

The History and Paperwork

  • Prior to being recommissioned, this TR4 received a comprehensive refurbishment by the Stag Workshop, of it's brakes and fuel system including new needles and seals for the carburettors, two brake calipers, brake master cylinder, brake hoses, new fuel tank, hose and pressure regulator.
  • Invoice for a refurbished engine in 2014 along with a replacement clutch, clutch housing cover, slave cylinder and water pump
  • An invoice from 2002 for rebuilding the bottom of the seats and recovering entirely
  • A book noting all of the work done from 1989 to 1991 which links to the extensive array of invoices documenting this work
  • A very large collection of photographs documenting the strip down and rebuild of the car
  • Invoices for all work from 1989 to present covering a significant strip down and rebuild as well as a complete engine replacement
  • Includes workshop manual, owners workshop manual and the rare original spare parts catalogue

The Interior

  • Good condition throughout
  • Seats are in very good condition having seen little use since being re-covered
  • Dash is in good condition with everything functioning as it should and a respectable patina fitting the age of the car
  • Fly-off handbrake lever
  • Carpets are in very good condition being a new set not all completely fitted and placed for the images which do not do them justice
  • Wood rim steering wheel
Sliding down into the car behind the gorgeous wooden steering wheel and looking down the bonnet you instantly get a feel  for why the TR4 has become a sought after classic.

The seats are soft and comfy in a way that few modern cars can match and the low position lets you know just how fun this car will be to drive. The black and white dash with chrome-surrounded dials looks fantastic and with the sun out and top-down it provides a  classic car driving experience that's hard to beat.

The Exterior

  • Very good condition throughout
  • Finished in powder blue
  • Wire wheels
  • Brightwork generally very good with only a few bits showing a patina
  • Soft-top in very good condition
  • A Tonneau cover
The Triumph TR4 is one of those cars that everyone likes, after all it’s hard not to when they
look this good. Finished in powder blue with the spoked wheels and an improved rear
luggage rack that mounts directly to the boot hinges and number plate this TR4 is an
exceptionally good looking car. With classic 60’s styling and sitting low to the ground it’s a
car with timeless good looks.

The Mechanics

  • Comprehensive mechanical restoration with the invoices and documentation to prove it
  • Very low mileage almost none of which has been done since the extensive recent work
  • Starts and runs superbly
  • The owner and the Triumph specialist who has carried out the recent work inform us that it drives very well
  • Hand starting crank included
With ownership in the same family since 1968, very low mileage and fully documented restoration this is really an exceptional TR4 from a mechanical standpoint. The condition of the mechanics reflects the condition of the interior and exterior in that it is all very good. There can be little to say with a car this good; everything has been done, wherever you look it has seen attention, from the underside to the engine bay this is a fantastic car.

Summary

This car has undergone comprehensive restoration, has exceptionally low mileage, has a refurbished engine, has been in the same ownership for over 50 years and looks fantastic; they don’t come better than this.
