1962 Triumph TR4

Highlights

  • Only two previous keepers New interior trim
  • Ready to drive and enjoy

The Appeal

Designed by the famous Italian Giovanni Michelotti this is Triumph's answer to the 1960’s roadster and what a beauty it is. Muscular front end, sporty stance and big multi spoke alloys are proven to be key ingredients to an aesthetically appealing car and the TR4 ticks those boxes effortlessly.

Add a 2.2L inline-four engine, a smooth exhaust note and you’ve got yourself a car that fills you with joy time and time again.

The History and Paperwork

  • V5c present
  • Past MOT certificates
  • Invoices for recent mechanical work
This TR4 started in June 1962, registered brand new to a gentleman in the Leeds region. The car was kept in their ownership until 2013 before being sold onto what we believe was a relative, before being purchased by the current owner in 2017. It is believed the car had a body off restoration prior to the current ownership however there is no paperwork to back this up.

The paperwork that is included is for all the parts and work done post 2017 and a few previous MOT certificates. The first MOT certificate is from 2002 where the mileage is stated at being "00027". We have to assume that the car had either received a new odometer at some point or had it reset.

The Interior

  • Recent retrim
  • MX-5 Seats
  • Great condition
Black leather seats from a Mazda MX-5 have been fitted to the car which we think are a suitable seat and do not look out of place. Condition of the seats is good as are black door cards and black carpet trim which are both only a few months old. Classic and original wooden steering wheel sits proudly in front of the beautifully laid out dash.

The walnut finish is lovely and made even more prominent thanks to the black trim located above and around the rest of the car. The black faced, chrome surrounded dials are typically sporty and all perform as they should with the exception of the AMP metre. Overall, the condition of the interior is great and a fabulous place to be.

The Exterior

  • Beautiful Pearl White colour
  • A few minor blemishes
  • Chrome in great order
Finished in what we believe is Triumphs ‘Pearl White’ paint, the car looks truly fantastic. We were blessed with some Spring sunshine on our visit and the car just looked wonderful with the roof down ready to hit the roads and make the most of those rays from above.

The chrome glisterend, as did the original multi spoke wheels. While there are a few blemishes, mainly a few paint bubbles and a tiny dent/scratch on the hood from a garage door incident, the overall consensus is that the car is in more than good order and a fine example of the model. In addition, a custom made cover for the soft top is included as is a unassembled fibreglass surrey hardtop.

The Mechanics

  • History unknown
  • 2148cc inline-four
  • Recent radiator & prop shaft
Since arriving with the current owner the car has been used on occasion and has only covered a few hundred miles in the last decade. However it has been kept in good running order with a few tune ups over the last few years plus a new radiator, alternator and prop shaft fitted.

The car was backed out of the garage it's called home for the last 5 years, started and manoeuvred multiple times without fuss or any dramatics. The 2.2L engine idled sweetly and as the throttle was pressed the car revved and growled impressively.

Summary

This 1960’s British sports car has certainly left an impression on us, while it's not free from imperfection it's in really good order and looks stunning in the Pearl White paint.

Recent interior work plus she's mechanically sound meaning she's ready for the roads, just in time for those sunset drives and summer memories.
