The Appeal
Produced between 1955 and 1962, the MGA paved the way for the marque’s next generation of sports cars, introducing sleek new styling, and exciting new mechanics. Rightfully so, the MGA gained tremendous respect across the range of variants and models released, arguably becoming of the finest British sports cars money can buy.
Today, these iconic MGs are becoming increasingly rare, with this very example believed by the current keeper to be one of just 7 equally specified examples remaining. In addition to boasting considerable rarity, this Mark II coupe also shows evident signs of care throughout its time on the road, with plenty of history to show. Key details worth mentioning, include an engine rebuild, bare-metal respray, and years of regular maintenance.
This MGA would make the perfect addition to any collection, and will surely put smiles on the face of the next lucky keeper for many more miles to come.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in February 1962
- 27,519 miles displayed, with an engine rebuild around 20,000 miles ago
- Previously subject to light restoration work, and a bare-metal respray in Dove Grey
- Treasured by the current keeper since 2008, with 2 former keepers noted on the current V5C document
- Currently, garage stored and well cared for
- Believed by the current keeper to be one of just 7 remaining vehicles with the same specification
- Includes an array of spares, including a brand-new chrome rear bumper, service parts, and consumables
- Also includes both an owners manual and a workshop manual
- Although a great deal of paperwork was previously lost due to flood damage, the vehicle still boasts excellent history, including the following;
- Current & past V5C documents, along with an original registration document
- A vast array of previous MOT certificates, and tax discs
- A selection of invoices detailing previous maintenance & repairs
- Correspondence from BL Heritage, and British Motor Industry Heritage Trust
- A photo album showcasing the bare-metal respray
- More than ready to be enjoyed by the lucky new keeper
The Interior
- Showcases a gorgeous red interior, with plenty of original components to note
- Previously retrimmed, the leather seats are in fantastic condition, with only light signs of wear to show
- The sleek grey carpeting throughout the cabin is also believed to have been previously renewed and continues to offer a rather clean, and tidy finish
- Includes the spare wheel, jack, knock-off hammer, and a spare belt within the boot
- Overall, the interior of this MGA presents itself brilliantly for its age, offering an excellent balance of retrimmed, and original components. There are of course signs of wear to note such as the driver’s door card, but nothing that significantly detracts from the overall form or comfort
The Exterior
- Finished in the factory-specified Dove Grey, following a bare metal respray in 2016
- Equipped with the factory-specified 15” wire-spoke wheels, and knock-off spinners. The wheels present themselves very well with only light signs of age, and come wrapped in a set of Michelin tyres, with plenty of tread left to enjoy
- Brightwork and exterior details also retain excellent finishes, with only slight defects noticeable upon close inspection
- A fantastic showcase of the iconic MGA coupe, that seemingly bridges the gap between a show car, and a perfectly usable sports car brilliantly
- Presented in fantastic overall condition with seemingly only minor blemishes to note, including a bubble on the driver’s door, and the pictured misaligned lower sill trim piece. There are also instances of underseal overspray, although this appears to be easily rectifiable with a dash of elbow grease
The Mechanics
- 1622cc straight-four, paired with a close-ratio manual gearbox
- Fires up right away, and performs brilliantly, with no known issues to report, with the slight exception of a slightly “bouncy” fuel gauge on occasion
- Well maintained example, with plenty of history to note
- Subject to a previous engine rebuild, covering around 20k miles since
- Serviced regularly throughout the current keeper’s ownership
- Fitted with an electric fuel pump & Kenlowe fan
- Noteworthy recent maintenance includes new front brake flexis and a distributor cap in 2020
- Ready to be enjoyed
