The Appeal

For many of us, a ‘60s Lamborghini is right at the top of our wish lists. But for those of us that can’t quite stretch to a Muira, this has got to be the next best thing…
This Lamborghini 2R FL3 tractor is brilliantly original, still sporting the factory orange and blue paint scheme. With 39 horsepower and a hydraulic 3-point linkage, this tractor is actually very usable should you wish to put it back to work in the fields.

Equally, it would make a great show piece and would surely be the jewel in the crown of any vintage tractor collection.

The History and Paperwork

  • Two previous owners
  • Believed to be of 1962 manufacture
  • Original and unrestored - with repairs made when necessary
  • Has periodically lain dormant in sheds
  • Now running and driving once more
  • No Revisione - (Italian MOT equivalent)

The Condition

  • Unrestored and original
  • Small repairs  / additions have been carried out over time
  • Great patination
The level of patination on this tractor is simply stunning, showing that it has been well used but also well cared for over the years.
The original orange and blue paintwork bears innumerable battle scars although the tinwear is impressively straight and free from any serious corrosion.
It’s not often that a tractor can be described as stylish, but this example is a truly elegant machine.

So many of its components have clearly been beautifully made, so it’s easy to see where some of the ideas for Lamborghini’s car company were first formulated. Take the aluminium transfer gear knobs for example, which wouldn’t be out of place in the most exotic of supercars.
Denoting the model, the ‘2R’ decal is still legible on the bonnet and the delicate script above the radiator grille leaves nobody in any doubt that this was made by the fiercely proud Ferruccio Lamborghini. Unusually, this tractor retains its headlights, although the vendor informs us that the tail lights are later additions.

Otherwise, it would appear that this Lamborghini has been largely untouched over the years, the original paint still visible on many of the bolt heads. The wheels also display a delightful patina and while the tyres are quite serviceable, the vendor suggests that they shall soon need replacing.
We understand that the odd reinforcement weld has been added here and there over the years, which is hardly surprising given this Lamborghini's nature as a working vehicle. We can see that the bonnet hinge has been reinforced at some point, which has been done quite neatly.
Cosmetically, we think this tractor is perfect as it is, although with it being so complete, it would of course be a good candidate for full restoration.

The vendor adds that all they have done during their ownership is wash it and add a new front emblem.

The Mechanics

  • 3-cylinder, direct injection diesel
  • 3-point linkage
  • Would benefit from some recommissioning work
The vendor informs us that this tractor runs and drives well, having recently been used out in the fields.
In such a compact tractor, the 39 horsepower 3-cylinder diesel engine makes this quite a versatile machine. We are informed that the 3 point linkage was a later aftermarket addition, but it makes this tractor particularly useful should the next owner wish to put it back to work.
We understand that the engine and gearbox operate well, although the mechanical brakes are less effective than they once were. The vendor recommends that some general servicing will need to be undertaken, advising that an oil change and general checks ought to be completed.

There are a couple of leaks as one would expect from agricultural equipment of this vintage.
The Bosch direct injection system is apparently in fine fettle meaning this tractor starts and runs as it should.

Summary

Seldom does the opportunity to acquire such an original ‘60s vehicle arise - let alone one sporting a Lamborghini badge.
Even if you’re new to tractors, this is a true collector’s item which would be a fantastic addition to any garage.
