The Appeal
Some classic Land Rovers are specified up for style. Others, like this one, are built for work yet deliver the same levels of style, but from a much more hard-working angle.
This one looks like a much more modern Defender but is a 1961 Series 2. It has been extensively modified since first registration, with most of the work undertaken by a previous keeper who was a qualified engineer. This included a restoration in 2014 resulting in the red paintwork plus fitting wider track with flared arches, updating the interior and fitting a raft of desirable accessories like the snorkel and winch.
But the heart of this incredibly capable workhorse is out of sight, at least until you lift the bonnet. Do that and you’ll find Cummins’ highly regarded 5.9L straight six truck engine. Much more powerful across bhp and torque than the original 2.25L diesel Land Rover unit, that motor makes this classic Land Rover one of the most capable that we’ve seen in some time.
Reported to be in very good working order and fully reliable, this MOT and tax exempt Land Rover is as capable as it is stylish.
