The Appeal

By 1961, the shaky start for the C1 Corvette was a long-forgotten memory. The car had become immensely popular, and was now being subject to only minor evolutionary changes. That classic 50s lineage was still clear throughout, but with a unique flourish that made the vehicle feel trendy and timeless for the 60s market.
This example is a prime one, with bright chrome and white wall tyres displaying beautifully against the red paintwork. It’s a real presentation piece, lining up all of those period features with a beautiful finish.
An authentic piece of Americana with real character, that’s sure to raise the attention of even the most experienced collector.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally registered in the US
  • Comes with US title and EU import documents
  • Only 43,203 miles indicated on five-figure odometer

The Interior

  • Black leather bucket seats
  • Leather dashboard with chrome highlights
  • Original 1960s instruments
The Corvette’s interior was decided to be high spec from introduction, and only developed with the model. Now proudly sporting leather bucket seats, contrasting metal highlights and a beautifully laid out dashboard, it has design language down to a fine art. The outsized speedometer is a particularly well-regarded feature, placed behind an impressive branded steering wheel.
This particular example is a remarkably well kept one, with no key areas of wear that we were able to discern. It’s a remarkable look into the golden age of the American automotive industry’s obsession with modernist styling. All instruments are said to be working well, including the retractable soft top.

The Exterior

  • Bright red paintwork with chrome highlights
  • Wheels look to be in great order with white wall tyres
  • Underside of car shows only minor wear
The C1’s shape and design, by now, was fully refined, and despite some very minor changes from its original specification, continues to carry a stylish, uniquely American exterior. The smooth shapes and bold front profile make for a real treat to the eyes, finished in a fire engine red with distinctive chrome features.
The finish here is superb, with no signs of paint gloss or scratches, while the chromework features only a slight patina that’s commensurate with age. The distinctive trims are all in excellent order, and there’s no visible damage to the glass or headlight caps. The vendor has advised us that there is only one small, but fixed, paint chip just under the hood;
The underside of the vehicle shows some wear, but no structural concerns have been highlighted and it appears to be free of any problematic corrosion.
The distinctive alloys are in excellent order, surrounded by eyecatching white walls with plenty of tread. The black canvas soft top also appears to be in great external condition, with no rips, tears or signs of damage to the fabric.

The Mechanics

  • 283Ci 4.6L V8 Engine
  • Clean engine bay with no signs of excessive wear
  • No major faults reported by vendor
This is a gently refined Corvette V8 in its finest form, showcasing the power that brought the type so much acclaim. It’s presented very nicely in the engine bay, which, while showing signs of use, doesn’t hint towards any major wear, corrosion or concern.
We’re not informed of any mechanical faults with the vehicle, nor of any oil leaks or knocking from the engine. Its low mileage and excellent condition are no doubt contributors to an excellent performance.

Summary

By the 1960s, the Corvette C1 had grown into a titan of American sports design, and it’s easy to see why. This clean, well presented example showcases the model perfectly, with its fierce front profile, powerful engine and comfortable interior all making for a superb addition to any enthusiast’s garage.
Beautifully distinct and with a museum-quality finish, this C1 is going to be a real treat for its lucky new owner.
