The Attractions
Alfa Romeos often appear in films. And no wonder, because if ever there was a car with a soul, it was certainly an Alfa.
A white Giulietta Spider just like this one starred alongside Edward Fox in Fred Zinnemann's 1973 film 'The Day of the Jackal'. A car that perfectly matched the energy of the charming and elegant assassin who drove it and has remained a symbol of Italian style ever since.
The Forgione collection includes two 1961 Giulietta Spyders and this is one of them. Mr Forgione often used his Spyders for weekend trips and lunches with other enthusiasts. These are second-series Type 101 Spyders with a slightly longer wheelbase and a revised version of the famous 1.3-litre twin-shaft engine.
Like all the cars in the Forgione collection, this Spider has been carefully maintained, used regularly and stored carefully to preserve its originality.

We can't help but admire the great originality of this car. It has a nice, uniform patina and we didn't notice any aftermarket modifications. The white paintwork presents well, as does the chrome, with some slight signs of localised wear. The matching hard top is an important asset and seems to fit properly.
In the passenger compartment, too, the surfaces show a slight patina of ageing, in harmony with the exterior. The red carpet provides a pleasing contrast to the black upholstery and white bodywork, and all the distinctive features of the later Giulietta Spyders are present and correct.
The Mechanics
- North twin-shaft 1.3-litre engine
- Single carburettor
- Four-speed manual gearbox
- Engine compartment looks good
- Used regularly while in Mr Forgione's possession
- We have been told that the car runs properly and drives well
Unsurprisingly, Mr Forgione used his Spyders a lot. They are fantastic cars to drive, very manageable, capable of excellent performance thanks to the twin-shaft engine and are fun as only small Spiders can be.
We have been informed that it has always been maintained with care and that it works properly as a result. The overhaul has been renewed until March 2023.
