The Appeal
The Willy's CJ - 'Civilian Jeep' - is exactly as it sounds. Inspired by the incredibly versatile, rugged off-roaders used by the US military, these early jeeps got the world into true off-roading for the first time, and quickly set a standard. The CJ-3-B was introduced in 1953, with a higher profile to carry the impressive new Hurricane 2.2L I4 powerplant.
This particular example, built in 1960, is a right-hand drive variant, originally designed for the South African and Australian markets. It's a rare sight in the UK - and what a sight it is. This fabulous example has been well-maintained, with minimal corrosion thanks to its life in South Africa's dry climate. Boasting a bolt-in rollbar, the vehicle also comes complete with a canvas roof and doors.
