Highlights
- Early model hydraulic lifter
- Desirable hydraulic pump at the front of the tractor
The appeal
This Mk1 JCB front loader originally came in kit form from Fordson Major Tractors, (hence the F.M. type designation) it would have originally come with the option to have a front loader and a rear loader or just one of the front or rear. This example was purchased by the current owner with plans to restore the tractor back to its former glory, however after some time outside the owner has decided to part with it.
The history and paperwork
There is unfortunately no paperwork that comes with the tractor but the plate on the frame does show its authenticity.
It was purchased by the previous owner from Baron Hill Estate in Beaumaris on Anglesey around 30 years ago where it was used to load barley and it was subsequently modified to take a larger bucket.
It was purchased by the current owner 5 years ago with the intention of restoring it.

The Exterior
The exterior is in need of a full restoration with surface rust and some further corrosion to some body panels and mechanisms. It seems like the majority of the frame of the tractor only has superficial surface rust that could be stripped, and repainted but other areas may need some further work. The front and rear loaders are missing and the wheels look as though they might need replacing.
The Mechanics
Mechanically the JCB is unproven with the tractor running and driving before being sat, it is now unknown as to the condition of the engine and drivetrain along with the associated operating mechanisms. The hydraulic pump on the front of the tractor is a part that may hold some value as they aren’t manufactured anymore but the condition of the internals have not been tested.
Summary
This tractor, a Mk1 JCB based on a Fordson Major tractor supplied in kit form has seen a lifetime of use and the owner would love to see it back to full health with plans to do just that, but time has had the better of them and the JCB now needs help from someone else. Failing that I’m sure the owner would love to see the JCB being used to keep another example in the work yard.
