The Appeal
With its thoroughly modern, aerodynamic styling the MGA was a marked change from what went before. That didn’t stop MG continuously improving it, adding more power and luxury throughout its life.
Of the many MGA varieties, the Mk1 1600 roadster feels, to us, amongst the most appealing. These cars mix the unadulterated aesthetics of the original with more power. No wonder they are popular modern classics, easily able to keep up with busy contemporary roads.
This Chariot Red 1600 certainly stands out. It is an original, home market RHD car, its bright paintwork accenting the A’s extensive brightwork. Inside there is a lovely cream leather cabin with well kept dials and switchgear.
A restoration was completed a few years ago, but remains very well preserved. Subsequent use has only added the lightest touch of patina, such as some creasing to the seats. Arguably this just adds to its character.
The good history file shows regular maintenance, most recently including a new aluminium Serck radiator, replacement head gasket and timing belt and a new starter motor. There is a BMIHT certificate and it is usefully MOT’d to June 2025. That is, of course, not a legal requirement but adds further reassurance for the buyer.
