1960 Healey Corvette

Highlights

  •  Original 75bhp Evinrude engine
  •  Older restoration
  • Exceedingly rare
  • Trailer included with the sale

The Appeal

Exceedingly rare and previously restored to its correct factory specification, this 1960 Healey Corvette boat is one of only three known in existence, and was launched at the Earls Court Boat Show in 1960.
This example - one of only three known in existence according to our vendor - was restored a number of years ago, and still looks fantastic to this day, having spent a large proportion of its lifetime as part of a Healey collection, meaning it has spent very little time in the water compared to most pleasure crafts of this age.
Ready to use and enjoy (though with the suggestion that the engine is serviced due to its long period of inactivity) this is an unusual opportunity to obtain a genuine piece of marine history, and one not to be missed by any Healey or small boat enthusiast.

The History & Paperwork

  • Old advertising material included with the sale of the vehicle
  • Tried-and-tested, confirmed to be water-tight
  • Previously restored to factory specification
The only ‘day cruiser’ boat designed and produced by the Healey Boat company, the Corvette was well-specified from new, including heavy-duty fenders, a panoramic windscreen, cleats, lifting handles and two-tone paintwork as standard.
With its fibreglass hull, matching hard top and space to sleep two, the Corvette played an important part in the Healey Marine story, though few were ever built.

In true Healey tradition - and, as was common at the time - production records / numbers were either not kept or have been lost to the passage of time, though over 1,200 Healey Marine boats of all types were built during the lifespan of the company, according to Bic Healey.
Similarly, the paperwork/documentation with the boat has been lost to the sands of time, though the vendor has confirmed the 75bhp engine is the original item.
Having been restored and then spent time as part of a Healey collection, this lightweight day cruiser has been tested and used by the vendor, confirmed as water-tight and in excellent overall condition, and is now ready for its next owner.

The Interior

  • Fully refurbished during its previous restoration, the cabin still presents in fantastic condition
  • Original steering wheel retained
Evidently seldom-used since being refurbished, the cabin of this Healey Corvette Boat is in excellent shape throughout, and requires no immediate attention before being used and enjoyed.
The vinyl seats and perches certainly look to be box-fresh in their condition, with no scuffs, tears or heavy creasing noted. Similarly, the ‘dashboard’ is in excellent condition, and the original steering wheel is retained and also presents fantastically.
The control box - mounted on the right of the aforementioned steering wheel - looks to be original, and displays a lovely patina which we’d say only adds to the character of this unusual and stylish marine craft.
We’d also point out a few areas of wear visible around the inner window frames, though this is only cosmetic in nature and shouldn’t be too hard for the next owner to rectify, should they wish to do so.

The headliner is also showing some signs of sagging slightly at the front of the craft.

The Exterior

  • Original colours
  • No damage, confirmed as water-tight
  • Trailer included for easy transport
Resplendent in its factory-original tricolour paint scheme, this Healey Corvette still looks absolutely fantastic to this day, with no signs of any damage, distress or major cosmetic imperfections noted on its fibreglass hull or roof.
There are some areas of patina - such as on the badging, high-traffic areas and fixtures - but nothing that we’d suggest is of any issue.
The wrap-around windscreen and sliding side windows are in excellent shape with no damage, and overall its clear to see this example has been rarely used since being restored.
Please note: The trailer seen in the photographs is also included in the sale of the boat, meaning this is a ready-to-go rig for the discerning marine enthusiast.

The Mechanicals

  •  Original 75bhp single outboard motor
  • Service required, but all systems running as they should be
  • No reported faults or issues
Available with either a single or double-motor setup, this Healey Corvette day cruiser was optioned with a single 75bhp Evinrude outboard motor, which it retains to this day.
Other than requiring a full service - due to a prolonged period of inactivity - the motor is reported to be in good shape, with no running or mechanical issues noted by the vendor.
The trailer is also ready to use, with no known issues we’ve been made aware of.

Summary

Exceedingly rare and with an unusual back story, this 1960 Healey Corvette is one of only three reported to remain in existence, and offers a rare opportunity for the discerning British marine or Healey enthusiast to obtain a previously-restored, ready-to-use pleasure craft with real provenance, just in time for summer!
