The Appeal

Back in the 1970s, when the modified UK modified car scene was really taking off, enthusiastic DIY tinkerers would take old saloons and ‘supe’ them up with more contemporary mechanicals and performance parts from various specialists. British Fords were a particularly good basis for hot-rodding, accepting extra power very readily.

This 1960 Ford Popular 100E was bought by the vendor five years ago and has since undergone a great deal of work, while recent tuning on a rolling road ensures it is ready for the road. As the photographs attest, this Pop really looks the part with its rakish stance, two-tone metalflake paint scheme and Wolfrace wheels. Those looks are matched by the performance of a 3.0-litre Ford Essex V6 and a Type 9 five-speed manual gearbox.
