- Smart and very original with delightful two-tone interior
- Later 600D with 767cc engine
- Iconic Italian car and the template for the 500
The Appeal
The 500 may have become the icon, a cheeky, stylish and enduring city car, but it wouldn’t have existed without this car, the 600.
The 600 is where Fiat’s designers practised their chops, creating a spacious, distinctive city car with simple and robust mechanicals. Like its smaller sibling, the car was evolved through its long life, becoming the 600D in mid 1960 and gaining a bigger, more versatile 767cc engine.
This 600D is one of the first built from a production run of 1.5million. An older restoration with some light signs of age, it sports a particularly compelling interior. The vendor advises that light recommissioning is recommended but it looks a very solid base from which to start.
The History and Paperwork
- Unfortunately we know little of this car’s history or service regime
- VIN records indicate that it is car number 60,251 of the 600D production run
- 600D production began in mid 1960 at a rate of 160,000 cars per year
- That would place this car as a late 1960 model and we have used that date for this listing
- Buyers may wish to check this date or advise us of any rectification required
- The VIN record confirms this as a 600D with the larger 770cc engine
- The vendor advises that the car may require some recommissioning
- There is an old service sticker from the 1990s under the bonnet
The Condition
- We are told that the paint is aged but the bodywork is solid
- The photographs indicate the car is well presented and likely an older restoration
- Complete car with no body damage and full set of factory fitted exterior trim
- Early car with the desirable rear hinged ‘suicide doors’
- Chromework is well kept with good chine and no visible damage or tarnishing
- Smart steel rims with chrome hub caps and tyres showing good condition and tread
- Glasswork is complete and undamaged with good rubber seals
- Lights present well with no noticeable misting or cracks
- Attractive two-tone interior is likely retrimmed and presents very well
- Seats show no visible wear
- Rubber mats well kept and factory correct
- Painted dashboard appears original and shows some light marks
- Original switchgear and oval dial in lightly patinated but presentable condition
- Door cards factory correct with matching red vinyl trim
- Underside appears in good order with coating of underseal
The Mechanics
- 767cc Fiat air cooled engine with useful extra power over original version
- 4spd manual gearbox
- Unfortunately at the time of writing we have no details on the servicing or history
- The vendor recommends servicing the car but advises it is mechanically in good order
