Highlights
- Highly appointed classic saloon
- Beautifully kept period interior
- 6.2L Bentley L410 V8 engine
- One of only 2,308
The Appeal
Introduced in 1959, the Bentley S2 was a milestone in luxury motors from Crewe. The new Bentley L Series engine provided top-of-the-line air conditioning as a result, along with improved performance. Only 2,308 were built, most of them destined for the British market.
This example - a European left-hand-drive car - looks to be in fine fettle, which seems to hint that its 92,173 kmeters on the clock may well be genuine. Promising plenty of original period character, this is a very impressive prospect.
The History and Paperwork
- Sadly we’ve not been informed of any history regarding this vehicle
- The vendor reports it is a 1960 example
- Appears to be highly original
- Currently indicates 92,173 kilometers on a five-figure odometer
- While this can’t be verified, the condition hints that this is a genuine indication
- Unfortunately, we’re unaware of any paperwork supplied with the car
The Interior
- Handsome period interior
- Extensive walnut trim
- Cream upholstery
Presented with a fabulous level of patina, this classic cabin is presented in an ivory and walnut colour scheme, with all of its classic character fully intact, this is a truly beguiling cabin for both driver and passenger.
The seats and door cards are showing some signs of age, with creasing and marks here and there on both the bolsters and door handles. It’s all a great signifier of the car’s venerable age, and in our opinion only adds a level of grandeur.
The dashboard is curvy and nicely-kept, with all of its period instruments in good order. We’ve not been informed of any faults with the car, and the cosmetic condition seems to support that they’ll be ready and waiting to go. The car’s array is completed by the classic Bentley steering wheel.
The carpets carry light wear, as does the headlining, though nothing significant. The interior lighting is all in good working order.
In the rear, the car’s fold-out tables and ashtrays look in good order, with vanity mirrors all freak of cracks and chips and the wonderfully plush looking seats carry only age-commensurate creasing.
The boot is in good order, with solid looking metalwork and the carpets clean and well-presented. From what we can see, the spare wheel looks in good order too.
The Exterior
- Impressive vintage bodywork with sleek curves and long nose
- Plenty of chrome, from coach line to bumpers to world-recognised Bentley grille
- Bentley branded, period wheelset
Commensurate with its period age, this car’s carrying some wear to its black paintwork, with the odd chip, scratch and swirl visible in the paint. However, the bodywork is tightly presented with no unusual panel gaps, dents or dings, and there’s nothing of major concern that we can highlight.
The chromework is clean and nicely-kept, with only light signs of wear - with big bumpers, the iconic Bentley grille and plenty of trims all present and correct. These create a great contrast against the paint, and really look the part. The glasswork and lenses are in good order, too.
The car is sat on its original Bentley wheelset, which show some light patina throughout, and the car is wearing a fitting set of period-style white-trimmed tyres, which seem to have decent tread.
We’ve not been informed of any significant faults to the car’s underside.
The Mechanics
- 6.2L Bentley L410 V8 engine
- Automatic transmission
- No reported modifications
Underneath the Bentley’s long nose is a nicely kept Bentley L-Series V8, which looks in fine fettle, with no major faults we’re able to highlight. We’ve not been informed of any mechanical faults, leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke, and it certainly looks very original.
The car was particularly well-reputed in its time for able performance - indeed, the L410 continued to be in production for quite some time, ensuring a good parts availability.
Summary
Impressively original, and still packed full of period character, this should be a great luxury classic for any enthusiast - after all, what driver doesn’t want a piece of V8-powered luxury?
