1959 Triumph TR3A LHD

Highlights

  • Imported from the USA
  • Comprehensively restored on arrival
  • Huge number of new parts fitted

The Appeal

The TR3A had all the ingredients of the perfect classic British sports car - small, pretty and light with a revvy and characterful engine up front and rear wheel drive and a simple yet elegant interior, and as we have here, a soft top.
Like a great many British roadsters of the ‘exports or die post war years’ this Triumph started life in America, where it stayed until 2014 when the current owner brought it back to Blighty and immediately embarked on a full and comprehensive restoration, only finishing recently.

The History and Paperwork

  • Completed import, NOVA and DVLA paperwork included
  • Copy of US Title from Ohio
  • Fully stripped and restored by the owner over several years
  • New paint
  • New interior
  • Mechanically overhauled
  • Receipts for hundreds of parts

The Interior

  • Left hand drive
  • New carpet set fitted
  • Seats recovered
  • Lovely wood gear knob
  • Crisp and clear dials
  • Leather trimmed dashboard
  • Steering wheel in great original condition
  • Some foot marks on drivers side carpet

The Exterior

  • Was stripped for restoration
  • Recent paint
  • Floors and boot floor were replaced
  • Continental tyres all round
  • Excellent bright work
  • Chrome bumpers look lovely
  • New hood with and clear windows
  • New tonneau cover
  • Paint has reacted with side screens near windscreen A posts
  • Just a few small paint chips and marks

The Mechanics

  • Mechanically overhauled over the last couple of years
  • Reconditioned brake calipers fitted in 2014
  • Gearbox professionally rebuilt by specialist in 2016
  • Brakes and clutch rebuilt
  • New exhaust
  • Please note that the underside does not show any oil leaks. When the vehicle was put out in the road for the photo shoot, it was parked over an oil leak that was coming from the dust cart which had stopped outside earlier that day.

Summary

Having been stripped down and restored by the current owner, the Triumph is in wonderful condition inside and out, drives well and is ready to be enjoyed.

The owner admits he has had more fun restoring it than he will driving and already has a fresh project in the garage, otherwise the TR wouldn’t be for sale.
