The Appeal
1952 saw the introduction of the first Norton twins to use the famous Wideline Featherbed frame. This started with the 500cc Model 88, but in 1956, it was joined by the 597cc Dominator 99 on the same frame. The Dominator 99 was one of the first of a line of what were, for the time, large capacity sports bikes - it's particularly highly-regarded for top-notch handling, nimble performance and - of course - its ability to hit 'the ton'. Built largely to fulfil American market expectations, they quickly gained a reputation in the UK and Europe, too, and have since gone down in history as one of British biking's all time greats.
This beautifully presented bike was dismantled in 1973, with all parts stored until they were acquired, restored and reassembled between 2019 and 2022 - with over £6,000 spent on the restoration. The motorcycle has only been ridden 200 miles since the completion of the rebuild. The superb black and silver colour scheme, sparkling chrome and polished alloy components, and the excellent powder coated frame make this motorcycle a real looker!
