The Appeal

If any further proof were needed that Land Rover’s original 4x4 is as durable as virtually anything ever built, then this 1959 Series II is it.

Repainted from the original green to blue some years ago, it is the definition of a dependable workhorse. With its practical interior and work-rippled bodywork it wears its life like a badge of honour. We love it.

Sometimes this kind of vehicle has been worked to death. Not here. It is reported to have covered less than 31,000 miles in its 66 years. The areas you want to know have been attended to, have been. The chassis is galvanised and benefits from recent new fittings including front legs, outriggers and rear cross member.

The 2.25L petrol engine and 4spd manual gearbox are factory-correct. Since the vendor acquired this Series 2 in 2022 he has fitted power steering, renewed the wiring, refurbished the carburettor and replaced the fuel pump and filter. It was fully serviced in 2024, with few miles covered in the intervening months.
