The Plus

Lancia has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with Italian coachbuilder Zagato. Together they have designed a series of beautiful, lightweight sports cars, many of which have gone on to compete and shine in the most prestigious concours d'élégance.

The car on display here is one of the rarest Lancia bodied by Zagato, one of only 368 Appia Gran Turismo Esportazione (GTE) Berlinettas produced. The seller informs us that this is one of 130 examples with streamlined headlights, of which only 51 still exist according to the Gino Giugno register.

This Lancia benefited from a complete restoration between 2014 and 2020 and is equipped with an upgraded "Bosato specification" engine as well as a five-speed gearbox. In addition, it is accompanied by its original engine and gearbox, both rebuilt.

With a wealth of period documentation and impeccable presentation, this rare and elegant Lancia awaits its next owner.

Reminiscent of a scaled-down Flaminia Super Sport, this Zagato Appia GTE Berlinetta is undoubtedly one of the most elegant cars ever to carry the Lancia badge. True to the Zagato philosophy, it is aerodynamic and light, weighing in at just 800 kg.

The interior reflects its exterior design: refined and uncluttered, with delicate, minimalist controls. As the photos show, this Appia has been meticulously restored and shows no signs of wear or deterioration, providing a flawless appearance inside and out.

We are assured that the Lancia drives perfectly since its restoration, thanks in part to the addition of a five-speed gearbox and a 'Bosato specification' engine, a tribute to the famous Italian tuner. Better still, its original engine and gearbox, with matching numbers, are included in the sale, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Thanks to its low weight and excellent aerodynamics, the Appia GTE could reach a top speed of 150 km/h in its day, despite its modest 54-horsepower V4 engine.
