The Appeal
Often credited with getting Britain onto the asphalt following World War Two, it's fair to say that the Morris Minor is one of the most significant cars ever built in Britain. The 1000 was introduced in 1956, just as the Motorway was beginning to crisscross its brutalist path across the green, rolling hills of England. So-called for its 948cc powerplant, the new car was intended purely to reach the performance required by the new highway network.
Purchased in 2011 from a family friend, this Morris Minor has been well cared for, having been garaged and covered daily. Subject to an older restoration, it's in good overall fettle, with an attractive livery of Old English white and red. The convertible Minor 1000 is comparatively rare, and if you're after a bit of mid-century milieu with the top down, you'll have trouble finding a better prospect than this.
