The Appeal
A prime example of postwar German styling and engineering, the '58 Ponton Cabriolet was Mercedes flexing their design chops. Under the long sloping bonnet lives a 2.2 litres straight-6 pumping out a smooth 115 horses - not neck-snapping but with ample power for top-down cruising.
Mercedes embraced luxury with the Cabriolet's plush leather interior, burl wood accents and full chrome gauges. The iconic stand-up hood ornament reminded you this was still a pedigreed Benz. With style and comfort in spades, the 220S Ponton Cabriolet delivered breezy, elegant open-air motoring, Mercedes style.
This example has been previously restored and remains in fabulous condition. If the delightful fifties styling of the exterior doesn’t sell you on this car then the beautiful interior surely will. We think it would be an amazing way to go touring.
