The Appeal
While it bore a passing resemblance to its XK120 and XK140 predecessors, Jaguar pulled out all the stops when it came to making improvements to the last of the XK line. Unveiled in 1957, the XK150 boasted a curved one-piece windscreen, a re-drawn wing line for more streamlined doors and a widened bonnet opening down to the front wings. In ‘Fixed-Head Coupé’ (FHC) guise, the XK150 boasted a significantly roomier cabin than its forebears, offering rear seats to make it a proper 2+2.
This 1958 XK150 FHC is a UK home market right-hand drive car supplied by Henlys, London with a four-speed overdrive gearbox. It comes with a green ‘Buff’ continuation logbook and an early MOT certificate from the 1970s. Speaking of MOTs, while it’s now exempt from testing, the vendor has submitted the car for MOT voluntarily, resulting in an advisory-free pass valid until 17th October 2025.
The Jaguar was subject to a Comprehensive bare metal restoration between April 2021 and February 2023, with a colour change to a bright Carmen Red carried out by the current owner. Any areas of corrosion were cut out and repaired, leaving a body shell that’s reportedly corrosion-free. The matching numbers engine was reconditioned at the same time and reportedly runs very well indeed.

The Condition

Following the aforementioned restoration work, the fit and finish of this XK150 is very impressive. We enjoy how the striking Carmen Red paintwork has been offset with black wire wheels while the chromed bumpers add just enough lustre to remind onlookers that this was a very high-end car in its day. The paint finish, chrome shine and panel alignment all looks very good indeed and we’re assured the bodywork is in very sound order. On the inside, we find a well-judged mixture of originality and high-quality replacement materials. We particularly like that large four-spoke steering wheel which boasts a charming, time-earned patina.

All looks very smart under the bonnet of this Jaguar and that’s because the original engine was repainted at the time of its recommissioning. A cylinder head overall has ensured that it runs very well according to the vendor and thanks to a four-speed gearbox with overdrive, (an optional extra in period), it’s a very engaging car to drive, well-suited to spirited jaunts and long-distance grand-touring alike. With no MOT advisories recorded when recently tested, this XK150 has a clean bill of health ready for its next owner.
