1957 Morris Isis Series II

Highlights

  • One of only 3,614 built
  • Recently serviced and starts reliably
  • Re-imported from South Africa after 40 years
  • Refurbished chrome work and new white wall inserts
  • Rare Morris model that turns heads

The Appeal

Introduced at a time when British cars were finally gaining a sense of fashion again, the Morris Isis is a charming little number. Based Morris Oxford series III body, and lengthened accordingly, the car really did seem to have a deco theme going on - from the rear fins to the fluted bonnet, it was a very handsome car. Of course, the relatively muscular (for the time) 6-cylinder engine wasn't to be sniffed at either.

This fine Series II example was originally based in South Africa, and reached British soil in 1997. Since then, it's been kept regularly serviced and dry stored. These cars are almost vanishingly rare, and it's not often at all to see one for sale. While it's not quite a concourse
example, it's undoubtedly going to be a headturner.

  • The door cards and flooring need attention
  • The interior ceiling lamp was removed but is available, leaving a hole in the roof lining
  • The spare tyre has perished

  • The clock is not working, but everything else is functional

The Mechanics

  • 2.6-Litre C-Series Straight-6 engine
  • Manual transmission with 3 gears
  • The engine appears to have been overhauled and is reportedly running very well
  • The gearbox and drive train are reportedly also in fine order
  • Recently replaced cork rocket gasket, fuel, and oil filter
  • The vendor reports that the car starts every time, runs very well, and drives as a 67-year-old car should
  • They further note that it changes gear well, and the overdrive works as it should
