The Appeal
Britain had the mock Tudor Moggy Traveller, but Germany got a real treat - the DKW 1000 Universal. Sculptural modern styling, high-quality engineering, and a clever 2-stroke three-cylinder 981cc 45bhp motor make these cars a real treat for enthusiasts of unusual, left-field classic cars.
The Universal was appropriately named. As you can see from the photos, it could accommodate a lot and is suitable for many duties, from family load-lugger to light commercial wagon.
This one is very well kept, finished in the classic DKW colour of mid-blue with a grey vinyl interior. Inside and out it is highly original, displaying a gentle patina of character that suits its practical nature. The previous keeper loved it so much he kept it for 20 years.
Recently, it received some light recommissioning, which means it is in great order for the buyer. This work included new rear leaf springs, brake lines, and new clutch and gear change linkages. It is usefully RHD and would fit right in at any show or as a family classic.
