The Appeal

Reverred for its innovative swinging-arm rear suspension, the Bullet made a name for itself in post-war trials events, securing numerous victories in international competitions. Between 1948 and 1956, the Bullet won 26 International Six Day Trial (ISDT) gold medals, securing strong sales in overseas markets. The UK market proved tougher for Royal Enfield, but there were a number of stand-out performances in one-day trials events with riders Johnny Brittain, Tom Ellis, Jack Stocker, Stan Holmes, and brothers Don and Pat Evans. Today, these lightweight Enfields are a popular entry in pre-'65 trials events, and there's a newfound appreciation for the model.

This 1956 example offers a unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts. Originally registered as '933 HMD', it was fitted with a 500cc works engine for the 1958 Scottish Six Days Trial and Peter Taylor was the rider. The Enfield was later owned by renowned off-road motorcycle historian Don Morley who researched the bike extensively.

Don bought the machine from Peter Taylor circa 1973 "mainly because of the ultra-rare 'Works' engine". Don later sold the Bullet to a friend, Bryan Amos, and bought it back several years later (in around 2000) following Bryan's death. The engine currently installed is a 350cc unit - the same as it would have had when it left the factory in March 1956 bound for its first (un-named) keeper in Hounslow.

With its rich history and connection to notable figures like Peter Taylor and Don Morley, this Enfield would be a superb addition to any collection. An accompanying REOC dating letter affirms its authenticity and historical significance.
