1956 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud I

Highlights

● Impressive Silver Cloud in great condition
● Ready for Wedding work
● Well maintained and reliable, never misses a beat

The Appeal

This impressive Rolls Royce has spent the past ten years as part of a large fleet of identical Silver Clouds, carrying out their duties on hundreds of “big days” around the South of England. It’s being offered as the owner has decided to retire from the wedding hire business and has started to reduce the fleet.

Once all the bookings for the coming months have been fulfilled he will be offering the remaining examples, all running reliably and in excellent condition so this is a fantastic opportunity to acquire an impressive set of matching Silver Clouds that are always in high demand.
This example has a good history, has been well maintained to a high standard, and is ready to work.

The Interior

● Excellent light grey leather seats
● Dark Blue carpets in good condition
● Smart Walnut woodwork throughout
On the inside the Cloud is nicely patinated.  The light grey leather is all in great condition front and rear, and smart and presentable.  There are no rips or holes, and the armrests fold down correctly and the seats are all comfortable. The dark blue carpet is clean, and apart from some wear around the pedal area, it is very presentable and protected by mats. The walnut wood veneer is good in all areas including all four door cappings as well the fold up picnic tables in the rear.

The walnut dash is equally well preserved and apart for some slight cracking on the glove box door it is excellent. The instruments look to be all original including the LW/MW radio. The steering wheel is in good condition with no cracks.
Above your head the light grey roof lining is in nice condition with no marks or sagging. The leather areas of the door cards would benefit from a light cleaning, but they are intact with no damage.
The boot area is clean and smart with fawn carpet on the boot floor, beneath which is the spare wheel, jack and tools. The inner cover for the boot lid and the spare wheel access hatch, although not photographed, will be included on the sale.
Overall the interior is presentable and in great condition, and there is nothing that requires immediate attention.

The Exterior

● Good paintwork
● Good panel fit and shutlines
● Excellent chrome and glass
The outside of the Cloud received attention in 2016 and the work was well executed as it still looks great some years later.  The panel fit is excellent with consistent shutlines and all four doors open and close nicely with no sagging. The paint itself is in good condition, with only a couple of small areas of note that could do with a tidy.

There is a small rub mark on the rear edge of the passenger side rear wheel arch, and an area where the paint has cracked away on the front corner of the driver’s door sill and a shallow dent on the lower part of the door itself.  Although not noticeable from a distance these areas would require attention before too long.

Those issues aside the overall finish is very presentable with only small marks in the paintwork here and there.
All the trim is straight and undented, and the chrome areas, particularly the bumpers and grill, are superb.  The all-important mascot and imposing Rolls Royce grill are in excellent condition with no bent bars or scratches. There is a small amount of pitting to the chrome on the boot handle, and the rear number plate lamp. The glass is all excellent, including the front and rear light lenses that are clear and uncracked.
The chrome and white hubcaps have no damage or dents, but there are minor cracks to the white painted areas and the odd chip.  The tyres are older Yokohamas on three wheels and a General brand tyre on the fourth.  All are part worn with some life remaining.

The Mechanics

● Runs and drives nicely and is reliable
● Mechanically refurbished in 2016
● Has received regular attention from in house mechanic
Starting easily and ticking over with barely a murmur the Cloud is reported to drive as it should. Having been part of a busy wedding fleet for the past 10 years it has performed faultlessly on hundreds of big occasions and is reported to be completely reliable with no issues. Opening the bonnet reveals the entirely original looking Rolls Royce 4.9 litre straight six with twin Sus. It has been fitted with electronic ignition and the owner reports that the car never overheats, testament to the build quality of this well-engineered inline six.

The engine bay is tidy and dry with no evidence of leaks from engine or radiator.  Underneath everything appears solid, with some misting of oil on the sump and nearby chassis, but little in the way of surface corrosion.  The Cloud has been stored indoors for many years and that is reflected in the overall condition.

Summary

Well maintained presentable and reliable; exactly what a working Wedding car should be.  With further examples to be offered in the coming weeks, this could be the first of an impressive Rolls Royce wedding fleet for someone who would like an instantly busy wedding hire business, or would like to add a bit of classic Rolls Royce class an existing hire fleet.
