The Attractions

There are different opinions about what characteristics a good car should have and endless theories about what makes a car unforgettable, but the most difficult thing to establish is which cars have a truly unique appeal. All cars are designed with a specific purpose, but in the 1950s car manufacturers were breaking new ground and creating all kinds of cars, trying to carve out a niche for themselves and explore new markets.

One particularly attractive market niche seemed to be the Microcars, a sector in which all kinds of innovative proposals were seen. The most important aspects for Microcars were economy, practicality and versatility, and the Isetta is perhaps the best known of them all.

Launched in 1953 by Iso SpA in Italy, this original egg-shaped Microcar was later produced under licence in various parts of the world. The original Iso Isetta remained in production for only three years, but its influence was enormous and long-lasting: 161,000 examples were produced by the various licensee companies.

Today, the most sought-after are the original Isettas, made special by the purity of their design and their unmistakable Italian character. This particular 1955 Isetta is a perfect example: carefully restored and maintained and still fitted with its original number plates.
