The Appeal
Velocette made it’s name during the 1920’s winning a string of TT races with the KTT, and later, introduced legendary machines such as the rapid Venom Thruxton.
The first OHV design came in the form of the 250cc MOV. Capable of 78mph (a stunning speed at the time) - it was an instant hit. Also known for their reliability and great handling, the MOV spawned the next generation of single, the 350cc MAC, in 1934.
Following the somewhat turbulent (and well documented) deployment of the MAC 350 during the war years, this competent Velocette emerged as the perfect commuter/touring machine during the 1950’s and epitomised everything that most riders loved about Velocette’s.
Arguably, the MAC 350 is one of the most user-friendly and stylish British motorcycles. Light, comfortable, well balanced, smooth and nimble, it also offers a degree of sporty performance and is often favoured over 500cc models.
This wonderful example has arrived from a collector and is described by the vendor as a “lovely, honest and really well restored motorcycle”.
Resplendent in the traditional black and gold and in road-ready condition, this classy and practical bike has had a fair degree of maintenance expenditure in recent months to bring it up to a reliable standard (see photos of invoices).
To quote the accompanying Motor Cycling magazine article back in 1954 “… to those that seek high quality workmanship and reliable performance, this model actually represents a particularly sound investment” - Need we say more.
