  • 7.4-litre “big block” V8

The Appeal

Now in its 14th generation, Ford’s ‘F series’ trucks are one of the best-selling vehicles of all time. Versatile, powerful, budget friendly and cleverly designed, it’s easy to see why they have remained so popular.
This 2nd generation F-100 has been significantly restored and enhanced, with many bespoke and custom features making it a true one of a kind. With a monstrous 7.4-litre V8 providing ample shove and copious drama, this hot-rod truck is ready to wow its new owners.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally manufactured in 1954
  • Imported from California
  • First registered in the UK in November 2021
  • One UK owner
  • Completely rebuilt and restored during the current owner’s custodianship
  • Historic vehicle status - tax and MOT exempt
  • An MOT can be provided with the vehicle, if desired
  • Only selling to make way for a new project

The Interior

  • Black leather upholstery
  • New ‘Auto Meter’ gauges
  • 3-seat bench layout
Some choice upgrades have been made to the cab of this truck. Spartan and simple from the factory, this example has been treated to a new bench seat from a modern Audi. Finished in black leather, it gives the option of a snug 3-seat layout, or a 2-seat layout with centre armrest and integrated dual cupholders.
The leather presents well, looking to be in good condition with no notable damage or significant wear. There’s a little wear from use evident on the squabs, but nothing beyond what we would consider normal. Both of the door cards as well as the steering wheel are trimmed with matching black upholstery and present well, with only minor wear showing.
Complementing the upholstery nicely, the carpeting is black, with dark grey overmats. It all looks in fine condition, with no staining or damage that we could see.
Giving the driver a little more insight into the running of the engine, the owner has installed a new set of ‘Auto Meter’ gauges in the centre of the dashboard. Incorporating water temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure and voltage, they provide invaluable information and are a practical addition.

The Exterior

  • Wooden bed liner with black metal runners
  • Custom Audi grey paintwork with contrast roof
  • Wolfrace ‘Slot Mag’ style alloys
  • Restored and resprayed in 2021
With a striking yet relatively subtle colour scheme, this handsome 50s load-lugger presents very well indeed. The curvaceous bodywork and wide arches appear to be in superb condition, with no dents or damage we could see.
The paint finish itself has clearly been completed to a good standard, with a black contrast roof over grey main paintwork (a modern Audi colour). All of the paint looks in good condition, with no blemishes or marks that stood out to us.
When the vehicle was restored, the owner decided to keep the external trim and badging as it was. We think this was the right move, as it wears a lovely natural level of weathering that simply cannot be faked and lends an air of authenticity to the vehicle. We’re particularly fond of the gigantic chromed ‘V8’ badge on the black front grille.
Period-style hot rod wheels have been fitted – Wolfrace ‘Slot Mag’ style 15” alloys. They’re shod in heavily sidewalled tyres that look to have good tread levels remaining and show no evidence of damage we could discern. The fronts are 205/75 R15s, while the rears are chunky 235/75 R15s. More than enough rubber to handle the power of that mighty powerplant.
The vendor tells us that the underside is exceptionally good, everything having been cleaned, restored and treated.

The Mechanics

  • 7.4-litre V8 (454 cu in)
  • Mustang 2 front clip
  • TH400 performance 3-speed automatic transmission
  • Shift kit
  • Twin 2.5” exhaust with Simons performance mufflers
  • ‘Line lock’ feature
In the words of the vendor, “everything has been upgraded, with no expense spared”. We can well believe it. Under the bonnet, the engine bay is delightfully clean and tidy, and it appears as if every element of the engine has been restored, painted or polished. From the polished air cleaner and Edelbrock rocker covers to the JEGS billet aluminium throttle bracket, it’s clear that a lot of time, money and effort has gone into this build.
That iconic ‘Big Block’ V8 puts out in the region of 500bhp according to the owner, produces huge reserves of torque from low down in the rev range, cruises well and makes a fabulous noise. They tell us that it runs very well, driving with no leaks, smoke or unwelcome noises.
As well as upgrading the engine, the transmission has been changed out for a performance TH400 unit with Shift Kit. A Mustang 2 front clip has also been installed, together with coilovers and front disc brakes. This all makes the drivetrain far more robust and usable, even as an everyday vehicle. Although, should you wish to go drag racing, the vendor has installed a ‘line lock’ feature, which should make warming the rears child’s play.

Summary

With those stunning looks and a thumping V8 soundtrack, this smart truck should certainly collect admiring glances wherever it goes, so we hope the new owner isn’t the shy and retiring type.
Having been meticulously renovated and carefully upgraded, this lovely old Ford pick-up has charm aplenty and vast performance. We’re sure it’s going to continue to be cherished and adored, whoever takes over its care.
