1954 Austin Champ

Highlights

  • Serviced by Champ specialist in September
  • Fuel feed upgraded with an electronic fuel pump
  • New exhaust system fitted
  • Solid bodywork reflecting its robust military design
  • Front seat covers replaced

The Appeal

Introduced in 1951, the Champ was built for the British Army - a sort of predecessor to the Gipsy and the Land Rover that came after it. Inspired by the iconic Willy's Jeep, it was intended to relieve the military's reliance on American imports, and build up its own reliable fleet of off-roaders.

With its impressive levels of agility, all-terrain abilities and spirited performance, it's little wonder that they've since become a classic car in their own right. This particular example has been gently modernised, ensuring it retains its original charm while meeting the demands of contemporary driving. The result is a characterful but eminently drivable car.
