Highlights
- Highly impressive restoration
- Charming 1950s British classic, full of period milieu
- Impressive British Racing Green paintwork with red accented grille
- Based and registered in the Netherlands
The Appeal
Introduced in 1950, the TD Midget was the penultimate car for the Midget series, and perhaps the most numerous to hit the USA. These comfortable, two-seater roadsters lost a little bit of their sporting character, but offered - for the time - excellent weather protection, complete with lit instruments, a higher level of road holding and exceptional comfort. It may not have managed to hit the British imagination, but it certainly managed for stateside - with the majority of the 30,000 manufactured heading across the Atlantic.
This exceptional example has been comprehensively restored in a beguiling British Racing Green that’s accented by a red grille and beige soft top. The vendor purports this to be a true nut-and-bolt restoration job, which should make it an utterly superb prospect for any collector.
The History and Paperwork
- Originally registered in the USA in 1952
- Brought to the Netherlands in 2009, where it commenced restoration
- Indicates 6,426ml on a five-figure odometer
- This could be the post-restoration mileage, but we’ve been given no verification
- Sadly we’ve not been informed of any paperwork that comes with the car
The Interior
- Fully restored interior
- Red leather seats and doorcards
- Attractive walnut dash with period instruments
Presented in a fabulous level of period styling, the vendor informs us that practically all of this interior is new. It certainly looks the part, with beautifully kept seat and door cards, resplendent in soft leather that’s perfectly cossetting.
The dash is nice and brightly presented with the car’s somewhat scarce instrumentation all present and correct, using what appears to be like-forlike components. The MG steering wheel adds a superb focal point to the array.
We’re informed of no issues to the car’s storage space, and the vendor reports that it’s been restored in much the same manner.
The Exterior
- Stylish British Racing Green paintwork with red accented grille
- Attractive chrome accents
- New beige soft top
Highly presented, and reportedly fully restored, this TD Midget is a distinctly period car with angular bodywork and sweeping, smooth arches - festooned with plenty of chrome. This example carries attractive British Racing Green paintwork with a distinctive red accenting that highlights its distinctive grille.
This example has been finished to a high standard, with the panels and paintwork all having reportedly been restored and polished up nicely. Everything really looks the part, with plenty of MG branding and a brand new beige soft top.
The car is sitting on a full set of MG disc wheels which are shod in apparently brand new tyres.
The underside of the car appears to have been fully restored, with a fresh-looking suspension, drivetrain and exhaust.
The Mechanics
- Powered by a 1.3L XPAG I4 engine
- 4-speed manual transmission
- Engine bay is reportedly in good order
- No reports of faults, leaks, bangs or smoke
- Car is reportedly starting and running well post-restoration
Summary
Nicely presented, with a highly polished finish. This is a very attractive example of the TD Midget. The restoration looks to be comprehensive and this 50s British roadster really looks the part from top to bottom.
