THE APPEAL

Designed by the incredible Harry Ferguson in 1946, the ‘TE’ Tractor changed the agricultural world for the better thanks to its famous hydraulic three-point hitch, otherwise known as the Ferguson system, which allowed an array of equipment such as ploughs and spreaders to be changed easily and efficiently.
The impact this technology had is quite frankly unmeasurable, with modern Tractors still using this system to this very day. From small plots to large-scale, industrial set-ups, anyone who has required the use of a tractor and its attachments has benefited and indeed the people who are at the end of that process, the individual who consumes the product that has been farmed, without Harry Ferguson's invention and the mighty TE, modern-day farming would not be the same.
This model is the rare diesel P3, an experiment when Ferguson were looking to pursue diesel as the future using a Perkins Diesel. The P3 required modification to allow the engine to fit, the bonnet height was increased, plus the radiator and tank were raised which consequently resulted in a too expensive operation for Ferguson and an alternative engine was adopted.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Believed to be a 1952 model
  • Enthusiast owned
  • The current owner has kept it as part of a large Ferguson collection
  • Owned as part of a large agricultural collection, this P3 has been kept covered in a barn for some years. It operates and drives without issue thanks to being cared for exceptionally by the enthusiast owner.

THE CONDITION

  • Ferguson Grey Paint
  • Areas of age-related wear
  • Iconic design
As you can see the Fergy is in good order but does feature various age-related blemishes, it is after all 70 years old. The recognisable design is essentially straightforward engineering, engine, gearbox, differential, all surrounded by housing that gives the tractor that unique appearance. It's loveable, charming and full of character thanks to its incredible impact on history, and while it may be unrestored, we think this adds a superb attraction.

During our visit, the Tractor was driven out of its barn and manoeuvred into position for the photographer. It rumbled and plugged down the road, sounding fantastic and looking even better. The ground-breaking hydraulic three-point system is fully operational, allowing for hassle-free hitching without leaving the driver's seat. This is a special system, world-changing and exceptionally rare. In addition, the tyres are in like new condition, with very few miles covered.
