1952 Bentley MKVI

Highlights

  • Great condition inside and out
  • Beautifully finished interior
  • Mechanically sound
  • Well cared for example

The Appeal

The first luxury saloon car produced by Bentley post WW2, the car came with a 4.3L, 6 cylinder In-line F head engine initially, with the addition of a 4.6L unit in 1951. It came with an all-steel body construction and was a great success for the company. Officially called the Mark VI, it was produced from 1946 and 1952.
This example has been well cared for by its current owner and comes in a great colour combination of white with red leather interior. It is regularly run and is in great working condition.

The History and Paperwork

  • Current V5
  • Because the car has been maintained by a private technician, there has been little paperwork
  • No build sheet is included but is available from the RREC - the car has undergone extensive restoration works whilst with the current owner and is excellent all round condition

The Interior

  • Luxury red leather trim with wooden highlights
  • Condition of the interior is very good with very little wear and tear with only light creasing on the front seats
  • Bakelite steering wheel in good condition with no excessive cracks or missing sections
  • Everything works in the interior including fan and electrics

The Exterior

  • Bodywork in great condition with little wear and tear and only one small patch of bubbling as shown in the photo gallery
  • All channels and cavities look to have been sealed
  • All glass is in good condition and all windows wind up and down as intended
  • Chrome work is in excellent condition with little pitting, dents or damage including the flying B emblem
  • All lights work and the lenses are clear of damage and hazing, the car has additional indicators for roadworthiness, however the original ‘pop-out’ indicators still work
  • Wheels and tyres are in good condition too with the tyres having plenty of life and tread left in them
  • Car has been well looked after during its time with the current owner and is run regularly

The Mechanics

  • The Bentley is mechanically sound with no known faults
  • Straight six is a little different to operate than modern cars but works well with a road test being completed at the time of photography with smooth running
  • Please see video for examples of the car running and driving
  • No knocks or noises from the suspension
  • Brakes were working as well as they should on a 1950s car
  • Routine running means the Bentley is kept in fine fettle

Summary

When the Mark VI was released, it was hugely expensive, aimed squarely at the top aristocrats and elites who could afford such a luxury. Despite this barrier to entry, the car was a great success for the company.
This one now comes with a more reasonable price tag and benefits from lots of care and attention from its current owner. Nothing has been spared reportedly in the upkeep and maintenance of this car and its current condition shows that. Circumstances dictating a change up in this small collection of cars has the Mark VI up for new ownership. Certainly one to get the chequebook out for we think.
