The Appeal
AJS post-war 16M was an evolution of the firm’s wartime bike but it won over buyers because it was simple, rugged and low maintenance. Those same qualities made it a hit as a trials bike.
To capitalise on this the firm created a special model, the 16MC. These bikes had modified frames, petrol tanks and forks. Many buyers also swapped out the standard 19in wheels for 18in ones.
The AJS & Matchless Owners Club confirms this as a genuine factory competition model. Their records indicate it is a 1954 model, although DVLA records state 1952. It has been comprehensively restored to factory-correct specification. This is carefully detailed in the history file shown in the photographs.
The vendor acquired this 16MC in 2018 to add to his extensive high-end classic bike collection. Sparingly used in that time it is now available for another discerning enthusiast to enjoy.
