The Most
The Mercedes-Benz W136 170S was an engineering marvel. With this model launched just a few years after the war, it was clear that the firm's engineers had set their sights high.
They aimed even higher with the car that replaced it - this one, the W187 220. Wisely based on the W136, the new car featured the more powerful 2.2L OHC M180 in-line six-cylinder engine and a modern, streamlined front design. Like its predecessor, few buyers could afford or were lucky enough to acquire one of the virtually hand-built cabriolet models. Only 997 four-seater Cabriolet Bs, like this car, left the factory.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of Mercedes-Benz's last hand-built cars. And the buyer acquires it at an interesting time in his or her life. Extensive restoration work has been carried out, including a full paint job in British Racing Green and refurbishment of the interior and woodwork. We are told that the engine runs freely. The main task seems to be reassembly.
For the right buyer who can spot this opportunity, it looks like a very tempting purchase. Once the reassembly work is complete, a superb post-war convertible model will be revealed, ready to be enjoyed by its owner.
