1951 Fiat 1400

Highlights

  • Eligible for the Mille Miglia Storica
  • Only 1,500 kilometres travelled in the last ten years
  • Extremely original inside and out

The Attractiveness

While Fiat is best known for the 500, its first post-war offerings were the practical 1400 and 1900 series saloons, based on the same platform. Their monocoque construction proved to be a great success, although today it is rare to find examples of these cars.
Here we have a Fiat 1400 from 1951 that is strikingly original. In the hands of the current owner for about ten years, it is in excellent condition, having covered only about 1,500 kilometres and having been carefully stored in a dry place. In excellent running condition, according to what we have been told, it is an excellent example not to be missed.

History and Documents

  • Retains its original colour (it was repainted by a previous owner)
  • The seller informs us that it is eligible for the Mille Miglia Storica
  • Some restoration work carried out about ten years ago
  • Regularly registered in Italy
  • Only 1,500 kilometres driven in the last decade
  • Original documentation includes maintenance booklet and owner's manuals

Conditions

  • Pastel bottle green bodywork
  • Repainted by previous owner
  • Always stored indoors
  • The paintwork has matted a little and acquired a delicate patina
  • The chrome is still in very good condition
  • No obvious dents or scratches
  • The seller reports some deterioration of the clearcoat in places
  • We have been told that the underbody is very solid, with only some superficial rust marks on the bottoms
  • Slight corrosion on the wheels
  • Seats were reupholstered about ten years ago and still look very good
  • The headlining is new but seems to need attention again

The Mechanics

  • Four-cylinder 1.4-litre petrol engine
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • The engine compartment looks good
  • We have been informed that it starts promptly, runs well and drives properly
  • An oil change is recommended as it has not been done for several years
  • Complete with jack and spare wheel as well as a set of whitewall tyres from the 1970s
