The Appeal
The Jaguar Mark 5 was Coventry's saloon for the new era. The post-war period was a time of innovation and blossoming optimism - not to mention a newly cemented link between America and the UK. The result was that Jaguar not only premiered plenty of new technology in their new baby - they did so with the American market very much in mind.
The MK5 was the first of its marque to carry independent front suspension, hydraulic brakes and plenty more - and despite it all, still felt very recognisable to the pre-war designs that had made the company such a fixture. It was a perfect bridge for the well-to-do who felt a loyalty to that straight-nosed stiff upper lip of pre-war.
Naturally, as a result, it was a huge hit - and continues to be, too. You'll still see the occasional Mark 5 at your local car show, or at a good museum, garnering plenty of admiration as only a truly distinguished-looking motor can. This one has enjoyed a similarly charmed life, having been through only two owners from new and spending many of its years as an exhibit.
With a remarkably low 79,843 miles from new, and a decade-old restoration under its belt, this car has spent much of its life being cosseted, with only the occasional wedding, car show or corporate event interrupting a very peaceful existing. Matching numbers, a desirable colour scheme and two periods of long-term ownership - this is a classic with everything going for it.
