Despite being, in essence, a very utilitarian pick-up, it was a little silly to expect Studebaker to make an 'ordinary' truck. With a studied design and an ever-present charisma, the M16 was an aerodynamic truck full of character, with a distinctive grille and a brand proudly displayed on the snout.
These are rare vehicles, especially on this side of the Atlantic. It's all the more of a shame because this is a simply stunning vehicle, with an imposing profile and timeless looks, full of character from its flat roof to its tyres.

Acquired by the vendor some five years ago, the truck suffered a collision that required restoration. The seller set about the task, and a local specialist drew up an estimate for the necessary work. For the time being, it is fitted with a new fuel pump and seems to be running well.

Incredibly unique and ready to be restored, this beautiful truck undoubtedly has the bright future it deserves with its future, and happy, owner.

History and documents

Built in 1946
In the hands of the current owner since approximately 2019
Has had a small collision in recent years which required the removal of part of the bodywork.
This will have to be redone as part of a restoration.
No MOT is required as it is not compulsory for this vehicle
The photos include current images of the truck and images from 5 years ago
A quote has been obtained to restore the entire truck at a cost of €20,000, including repairs to the bodywork, paintwork, shock absorbers, brakes and power steering.

Condition

The damaged bodywork, wings and grille have been removed.
However, these elements are still present for restoration
the front left wing, which needs to be restored following the collision.
New paintwork is required
The seller states that there is no perforating corrosion to be noted.
The rear bay looks solid.
The underside of the car is in good condition with no significant problems.
The interior of the cabin is very evocative
The leather upholstery has been redone and is in very good condition.
A few light paint chips on the dashboard
All the instruments are legible and very evocative.

Powered by a 3.7-litre Commander "Big Six" engine

The engine is partially exposed due to the areas of bodywork that have been removed.
