The Appeal
The open top 328 may have grabbed the headlines, but looking at this beautiful two-tone 327 there is a strong case to argue that it is the much more beautiful car. Continue your inspection inside, and you’ll discover a truly magnificent blue velour interior, surely one of the best of any pre-war cars.
This 327 was built in 1939 and is one of the 265 cars assembled before the outbreak of war. It is an older restoration finished in smart dark blue and cream. The paintwork shows minor signs of age but nothing that could not easily be attended to.
This is a matching numbers car with the M78 2L 60bhp straight six engine and a four speed manual gearbox. For collectors this is a rare opportunity to acquire a very good example of these cars, few of which come to market in any given year.

What a beautiful car. Restored in dark blue with cream trim, this 1939 car’s paintwork accentuates the handsome lines of BMW’s pre-war coupe. Bright chromework and neat details abound including rear-hinged doors, rear spare wheel and split screen. It is in great order, the paintwork showing only light patina in some areas as noted above.
The interior is arguably even more impressive. The blue velour fabric finish adds an extra touch of luxury to what is an equally beautifully detailed cabin, the switchgear and stylish speedometer being particular highlights. Again, it is all very well kept and looks little used.
The Mechanics
- M78 1,957cc 6cyl 60bhp engine
- 4spd manual gearbox
- Matching numbers car according to seller
- Described as well maintained by seller
- The vendor states the engine runs well
The small capacity straight six engine beneath the 327’s big bonnet is a smooth, silent motor that was so good that it powered the firm’s cars from the 1930s to 1950s. It delivers decent power via this car’s four speed gearbox.
We are told that this car is a matching numbers example that has been well maintained throughout its life. It is said to run well with no issues for the buyer to pick up.
