Pre-bids

1938 Ford Fordor Deluxe Sedan

Highlights

  • Right-hand drive example
  • In long-term ownership for over 50 years in South Africa
  • Original Ford V8 engine
  • Fully serviced with refreshed tyres

The Appeal

In 1938, a recession hit the USA, and Ford - unable to justify large investments - opted to continue their 1937 product range with little modification. While that was against many market expectations, it couldn't be denied that the V8-powered Fordor was already quite a fabulous car. That stylish silhouette, the characterful nose, and its comfortable cabin are, today, quite the desirable setup.

This South African example carries a very desirable Almond Beige livery with a tan leather cabin. It's still carrying its original Flathead V8 and looks to be quite a time capsule. We understand it's been recently serviced, has new tyres, and is ready and waiting for its lucky new owner.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built in 1938
  • In long-term ownership in South Africa for over 50 years
  • This was ownership under Mr Bert Scheepers of Knysna, one of South Africa's most prominent car collectors
  • While in this ownership it was largely kept in dry storage and very little used
  • The family of the owner is contactable for further history
  • Fully serviced with refreshed tyres
  • Indicates 79,999 miles on a five-figure odometer

The Condition

  • Beautiful deco-era lines with a distinctive grille and a sweeping, curvy rear end
  • Presents well in a lovely Almond beige hue over a tan interior
  • Very light signs of wear, largely towards the car's lower extremities
  • Badges and branding look to be all present and correct
  • Light signs of use to the brightwork
  • Steel wheels are shod in a fresh set of tyres
  • Underside appears solid with light surface wear
  • Interior looks in good order with lovely tan leather
  • This is a real time capsule with plenty of originality
  • Light wear to the painted dash
  • Some patina to the instruments and their surrounds
  • Aftermarket temperature gauge underneath the dashboard
