The Appeal
3.4 metres of pure high society feelings and Rolls-Royce quality this 25/30 is an excellent car to behold. Over the years it has spent time across the pond in New York, but it is now back home in the UK and waiting for you to hop in and exploit the power on tap.
The History and Paperwork
- Starting life this side of the pond, the Sports Saloon body of this car is hand built by coachbuilders Hooper of London
- Ordered new by the owner of Lamerton Manor it passes through a few owners until it takes to the sea and goes to America
- Thanks to a window sticker we can see that it was residing in New York during 1981
- It also spends time in Michigan and Lansing during its 35 years stateside
- The car then returns to the UK at some point and was purchased by the previous owner in 2014
- Purchased by the current owner at the start of the year they say that it is a beautiful car to drive
- In terms of the paperwork, it will come with the up to date V5, a re-wiring diagram, and some other handbooks
- Most recently the seat bases have been restored as they were in dire need of it, but the seat backs have retained the original leather
- It is now your time to get behind the wheel and enjoy the driving thrills of a perfect pre-war classic
The Interior
- Restored seat bases
- Lovely wooden accents
- Nice interior touches
Upon opening the suicide-style doors, you are presented with a very well-built classic interior. Filled with acres of leather, good carpeting, and wooden elements sitting in this Rolls-Royce is a real sense of occasion.
All of the seats and door cards are trimmed in sumptuous green leather. When the current owner acquired the car the seat bases were original but unfortunately beyond repair. With this in mind, they restored and refitted the bases all around. Thanks to this work they are now presented in great condition with little to no damage at all. To keep some level of originality the original seat bases have been retained but as they’re approaching 100 years old, they do some signs of their age.
The door cards, however, also finished in that deep green leather, are in lovely condition. Just above the leather are some beautiful wooden trims that wrap around the windows.
To match the green leather seats the carpets are trimmed in a slightly lighter green carpet. In the rear, there is a lovely hidden feature that will allow rear passengers more legroom. Simply push the small box down and you’ll gain some more space. Excellent for those long trips or special occasions.
With lots of little features such as glass vases, or easily accessible ashtrays, the interior is very classy and unlike any modern car. Filled with charm and character the interior of this Rolls Royce is in lovely condition.
The Exterior
- A lovely two-tone paint job
- Hooper Sports Saloon body
- Characterful charm
- Professionally presented
Much like the interior, the exterior is presented in lovely condition with some beautiful original features. The large vertical Rolls-Royce grille, that has gone on to signify the marque, sits proudly up front with the Spirit of Ecstasy flying above.
The dark brown on tan paintwork accentuates all of the lines and curves of this beautiful coach-built body. As you might expect from a car of its age there may be a few isolated areas where the paintwork is quite like new, but it still looks marvellous in all lights.
Back in the 1930’s you couldn’t have a high-end, luxury motor without a shed load of chrome. This 25/30 has a lot of shiny chrome from the front to the rear, the majority of the chrome is situated upfront, and doesn’t it just look amazing?
Sitting on either side of the large chrome grille are the two characterful headlights. This is another charming feature of pre-war cars that makes them stand out from the crown. In a modern world full of SUV’s there is something beautiful about a car that looks like nothing else on the road.
On all four corners, the car sits on Blockley tyres. These tyres offer modern construction and materials with the true classic looks you expect from these cars. The hubs are all covered with large caps that have the same colour scheme as the body. These hubcaps are in good condition, but there are some small areas of marking present.
Overall, the exterior looks very good indeed. Its charming looks make for a one-of-a-kind classic that will look marvellous sitting in your collection.
The Mechanics
- Powerful original engine
- Easy to drive
- Re-wired with a cloth-covered loom
A common phrase that gets bounded about with classic cars is ‘it starts on the button’, for this Rolls-Royce this phrase is 100% true. Upon pressing the starter button, the large straight six fires into life almost silently and purrs away nicely. One of the previous owners looks to have been through and re-wired some areas with a new cloth-covered loom that matches the original one.
The current owner has said that out on the road this car is a wonderful car to drive. Surprisingly spritely it has more than enough power to keep up with modern traffic. If you wish to use this as a classic show car then you will be able to drive it there, or if you’re going to use it to ferry about wedding passengers or the bride-to-be, then this will perform excellently.
Summary
Ready to go when you are this Rolls-Royce 25/30 is presented in wonderful condition and is ready to be displayed or worked. As part of a wedding car fleet, this car will provide some of the best moments in people’s lives, or as part of a personal collection, it will be an extraordinary looker.
