The Appeal
Introduced in 1935, the Riley Merlin 9 was amongst the best selling cars of the interwar period. They were lightweight, attractive and inexpensive - benefiting enormously from a standard steel body manufactured by Briggs, as well as a potent 1087cc engine and the introduction of an optional pre-selector gearbox. In that sense, it was a highly up-to-date car for its price - and must have been quite the enticing prospect to the '30s motorist.
Originally owned by the vendor's father, this car has been subject to an older restoration some time ago, and has spent much of its recent life quietly stored in a dry garage. Although a non-runner, it's now ready and waiting to be recommissioned and returned to the road, and will no doubt prove a very prized little classic for the lucky new owner.
