The Appeal

When Mercedes-Benz presented the new Typ 170 V at the 1936 International Motor and Motorcycle Show in Berlin, they were setting up much of the company's format for the future. In many ways, the solidly built, pacey and comfortable 170 was a natural precursor to the company's future post-war success. Indeed, if it wasn't for the car's return to market at the end of WW2, we wouldn't have Mercedes-Benz today.
Thisexample dates from the first year of production. That's a real rarity - prewar examples are extremely rare, and can be recognised by the car's unique badging, which was standardised post-war. The car's convertible limousine body style is a standout feature, offering a blend of luxury and open-air driving experience with a distinctive executive milieu.
This Mercedes-Benz 170 has been in the same family for over 50 years, and it shows in the meticulous care and attention it has received. The comprehensive restoration by leading classic car specialists in Croatia has returned the vehicle to its factory condition. It is a true collector's item.

The vendor tells us:

"The first owner of the car drove it from 1936. until 1960, when the car was registered and stored in a garage in Šibenik (Croatia). My father bought it in the '80s and the car moved to a garage in Zagreb, where it is still today.

"The restoration of the car began in 2008 and lasted until 2011.
The car has been completely restored. Bodywork, interior, upholstery, soft top roof, chrome parts, wood panelling, etc. The complete mechanics, chassis, gearbox, engine, etc., everything has been restored to new.

It has been registered, technically correct and insured every year. Since the restoration, the car has travelled about 2,500 kilometres, mainly going to oldtimer meetings and exhibitions
