The Attractions
In the 1920s, Lancia was certainly not a generalist car manufacturer. It mainly produced sports cars and luxury saloons, all with prices well above the European market average. Therefore, when the economy began to show signs of slowing down, the company decided to run for cover by offering a smaller, cheaper car designed for a wider public.
The Augusta was a huge success and, with more than 17,000 sold, managed to lift Lancia's finances and keep it safe until the Second World War. It failed to exceed the sales of the Fiat, but still achieved excellent results and proved to be a truly outstanding small car in every respect.
The press of the time described it as a lively and comfortable car that could travel 80 km/h without any problems and seemed much more capable than its relatively small engine would suggest. Today, it is a much-loved pre-war classic, full of charm and character.
This fine example from '35 has always been owned by the same family and has been handed down from father to son. Over the past 90 years it has always been kept with great care and its mechanics have recently been thoroughly overhauled. ASI-certified, well known having participated in numerous rallies in Sicily and scrupulously maintained twice a year, it is a truly remarkable veteran.
