The Appeal

MG’s T-Type is widely credited with kick-starting the firm’s reputation for simple, rugged and hugely enjoyable sports cars, but really it began here, with the earlier M-Type. Built to service a new market for cheaper sports cars - and in turn keep the factories busy - just 3,232 were built between 1929 and 1932.
This petite and pretty example was one of the last 100 to leave the works. It originally had a green all-metal body but has been restored with the earlier and more characterful fabric body and a lovely burgundy finish with black wings. It is very well kept and a credit to its current keeper, an engineer, who has looked after it with considerable diligence.
Beyond the attractive aesthetics the mechanicals are in fine order. Alongside regular servicing by the seller the car benefits from a recent head gasket and seal change and hard core plus fitted in 2024. There is a rare D-Type 4spd gearbox and the car is said to start and run very well.
These lovely little cars remain hugely popular with trials enthusiasts. Or do like the seller and treat it to a more relaxed life of local shows where it is sure to stand out.
The vendor says:
“Lively, it performs very well, it was the first MG, before the accountants arrived and is still today favoured by trials enthusiasts.
“It's such a pretty car with its boat tail - it's utterly charming and a pleasure to drive. I always wanted one but now in my 80's it's time to say goodbye.”
