1931 Renault KZ ‘Moutonniere’ TBD

Highlights

  • Rare commercial variant, retaining period coachwork by Carrosserie Paul Gillaume
  • Presented in very good overall condition, maintaining much of its originality
  • With recent attention to the electrical system, we understand the van to be in good working condition

The Appeal

As quite a large chassis for its time, the competitively priced Renault OS2 proved the perfect basis for a number of commercial commercial applications. Therefore, various coachbuilders were entrusted with adapting it for a variety of uses.

Here we have one such example, a commendably original survivor originally adapted by Carrosserie Paul Gillaume. Featuring what looks to be a livestock enclosure, this later example would be a great addition to any museum or collection of pre-war commercials. Presented in remarkably fine condition for its age and in a striking colour scheme, this Renault awaits its next custodian.

The History and Paperwork

  • While the exact year of manufacture is unknown to the vendor, it’s evidently a later example with the radiator in front of the engine
  • The date of first registration is officially recorded as 29/08/1985 on the French registration documents - suggesting it was re-registered after a long period off the road
  • 70,010 kilometres indicated on the odometer
  • French documentation present
  • Current number plates fitted

The Condition

  • Remarkably original with much of the Paul Gillaume wooden bodywork present
  • Vibrant green paintwork refinished at some point to a high standard
  • The woodwork presents well overall but is naturally exhibiting some age-commensurate deterioration
  • All the brightwork and ironmongery looks in good shape
  • Functioning drop-down tailgate
  • The chassis looks to be in excellent order, with no signs of corrosion or damage
  • Timber-lined cabin with rear viewing window
  • The vinyl upholstery and door cards are in lovely order
  • Some wear to the floor mats, pedals and steering wheel
  • The instrumentation reads clearly
  • Vented windscreen - still operating well

The Mechanics

  • 2,120 cc four-cylinder engine
  • Three-speed manual gearbox
  • This example now features modern wiring
  • All present nickel under the bonnet]
  • We understand that the engine to be running correctly
  • The vendor doesn't report any mechanical issues
