The Appeal
Cars really do make the best family heirlooms. What better way to feel connected to your forebears than to own and enjoy the very same vehicle your grandparents were driving almost a hundred years ago?!
This 1929 Austin Austin 16/6 comes with unrivalled provenance. We’re informed that the vendor’s grandfather was the original owner, who then lent it to the vendor’s uncle to travel between various military airfields after the Second World War. The vendor’s grandfather then had the car back and used it until the 1960s when it was put into storage. Around fifteen to twenty years ago, the vendor and their uncle recommissioned and sympathetically restored the Austin, getting it back on the road without erasing its unrivalled originality and period charm.
Sitting between Austin’s ‘Seven’ 747cc economy car and the 3.6-litre ‘Twenty’ full-size saloon, the 2.25-litre 16 was launched as a mid-size saloon in 1927. It was deemed thoroughly modern at the time with its ‘in-unit’ engine and gearbox design, as well as semi-elliptical leaf spring suspension all round. This 1929 example is the earliest iteration and in lovely original order.
Seldom do cars of this vintage come to market with such incredible history, let alone in as fine condition as this Austin 16/6. Now offered reluctantly for sale due to a change in circumstances, it’s time to find this Austin a new home. Complete with a wealth of paperwork, now’s your one and only chance to acquire it from the family that’s owned it for 3 generations.
