Highlights

- Solid and well presented chassis
- French registration document and other documents present.
The appeal
With nearly 81,000 examples marked, the Citroën Type C was a huge success, thanks in large part to André Citroën's innovative manufacturing techniques, not unlike the production lines of Henry Ford's Model T at the time. Here we have a lesser-known commercial variant, a baker's van with a neat wooden body.
Presented in truly remarkable condition for a car that is now a century old, this charming Citroën is a particularly fine example, sure to be of interest to collectors of pre-war commercial cars.
History and documents
- Vehicle registration document and numbers present.
- First registration in 1927
- Production ran from 1922 to 1926
Condition
- Bright yellow paintwork, a colour that earned the C type the nickname of "little lemon" at the time.
- Elegant, ornate wooden bodywork, with lines more akin to a shooting estate than a conventional van.
- The chassis looks very solid and has been kept clean for sale.
- Canvas roof with roll-up sides in very good condition.
- Slightly weathered, as befits a classic car.
- Previous restoration work has obviously been carried out in good condition.
- No noticeable pitting or damage to the shiny parts.
- Fitted with discreet aftermarket indicators
- Stylish leatherette upholstery
- No noticeable wear to the controls beyond the patina of age
The powertrain
- 800 cm3 four-cylinder petrol engine
- Three-speed manual gearbox
- At the time of writing, the HT wires had obviously been removed, as had one of the spark plugs, so we were unable to see the car in operation
- The ignition magneto is currently being restored and will be reassembled by February 2024.
- The seller reports no problems, so we believe the car to be in good mechanical condition.
