The Appeal
The Model JD deserves much more recognition. Overshadowed by Harley-Davidson’s post-war bikes and by Ford’s contemporary Model T, it was crucial to the firm’s development and played a similar role transforming peoples’ lives with mechanised transport.
Despite a long production run, good quality survivors are rare. The later much-improved F-Head V-Twin 74CI models, built from 1921, is particularly appealing.
This 1923 74CI JD was acquired by its previous keeper in the 1970s from the Shuttleworth Collection as a serious project. It has been restored to a high standard with obvious sympathy for factory specification. This work was completed the restoration in 2006 before the vendor acquired it in 2017 at which point it hadn’t been run in.
Barely used since, it comes to market much as it surely was on completion 18 years ago. A great opportunity for vintage bike collectors.
